I do have to give credit where credit is due. I had the best (all inclusive) Thanksgiving meal ever. Don't get me wrong. I consistantly have great food made by family and friends at Thanksgiving, but there is always something that you never got seconds of - hence the "all inclusive." Though I am technically on the way to Afghanistan, we are still stuck in Germany. We rode up to an Air Force base and were told that our plane was being worked on. In this hospital, at least, most everyone goes home at night. One doctor remains in each ward, but that's it. Add to this the fact that nurses cannot do anything themselves (barring an emergency), and all operations pretty much cease at night. This helps to explain why they encouraged her to get some sleep last night and start fresh in the morning ( Read more... )

They have started the IV drip as of about an hour and a half ago. I just got back from dropping Alaina off and taking a shower. I'm about to go downstairs and check on her, and will post again/call as time and the situation permits.

It is progressing, albeit slowly. Because it isn't technically time yet, they are having to ripen the cervix before labor actually happens. She is dilated a little and has taken the second dose of cytotec. I'm going to try and get some things done while she's still waiting.

We are at the Klinikum in Bamberg waiting on the labor to start. Tab had a normal doctor's appointment yesterday. Her blood pressure was slightly higher than normal; not in the danger range, but higher. The doctor drew blood and said that he was going to test for pre-eclampsia. So, the class that all of the soldiers have to take over here ends in a field trip into town to apply what has been learned. The first three days of the week was all put to practical use today. We had a walkthrough of the train station, rode the bus, went shopping, went to look at some of the cathedrials, and ate lunch. It was mostly for the other ( Read more... )

So, I saw a jar of caviar in the grocery store a couple of days ago and bought it. It is by no means a good brand. The good stuff can go for about $75 a tin. This wasn't even $5. I know that this doesn't compare to the good stuff, but it reminds me of eating sardines. Taste-wise, mind you.  A little bit does go a long way on a cracker. Tab doesn't ( Read more... )
