Last week, I sent a text: "The water, it is hot. very hot!"

And I got this in return: "It is a beautiful thing."

That is so true.

Solved. Sort of. )

I am in awe of anyone who'd tackle a water heater on their own. Repairmen all the way here. 'Don't touch it yourself YOU'LL BREAK IT!!!!' was dinned into me by my father.

I would give anything for an honest diner that had a meatloaf platter, or a hot roast beef sandwich, or anything like that. A Russian restaurant here does mushroom stuffed meatloaf, but the gravy is also mushroom (feh) and there are no condiments to be had. Meatloaf needs mustard pickles or something like that to liven it up. Or just mustard and pickles, whichever.

I absolutely agree if you're getting a new one installed -- they'll haul it in, and take away the old one, and deal with the plumbing and the wiring to the circuit box. So that seems worth it. But just replacing the elements isn't difficult. Or shouldn't be, in an ideal world. (Grah grah.)

Oh. My mom had the roast beef special last time; it's real roast beef at this place, as opposed to the stuff from the cans. Is very nice. If she decides to get a tenderloin again some time, I'll def. get a picture; they tend to be larger than the plates. :D

Hmm. I don't know what a mustard pickle is.

Mustard pickles are probably a British thing, or a bastard variant of same. Basically just sweet pickles in something resembling a slightly sweetened up version of French's mustard.

I seem to recall we had corn relish with our meatloaf, which now I couldn't eat. (Corn hates me.) But meatloaf requires something to counterpoint the meat taste.

Ha, I don't know what corn relish is either. This sounds like an odd mixture of clashy tastes to me. (But as long as it doesn't have eyes, I'd probably eat it...)

But meatloaf requires something to counterpoint the meat taste.

NOT spoken like a true Midwesterner. :P

I downloaded it last night, but need to get out to work now. Seeing as the parent summoned me home midway through my rounds to open the door for her last week. -_-;

Yay hot water!

And I like proper mashed potatoes too - not a huge fan, but definite upgrade from the KFC variety. There are a few branches of this around here, but it's pricey and no one else wants to eat it. :) Chicken not exciting, but the mashed potatoes and coleslaw are good. http://popeyes.com/menu.php

There was one of those here, for a brief while. Fast food places def. use instant potatoes...

It had good gravy, at the very least. Lots of things in the gravy, not weird brown sauce.

There was actually a small, brief attempt at a "healthy" fast food place, a tiny shop using fresh instead of frozen chicken (you can tell by the bones), and actual, lumpy mashed potatoes etc. It didn't last long, since it was right next to a KFC and McD and cost more. It also had onion rings made from a whole large onion.
