So the interesting side effect of Facebook is having to think about people I haven't thought about in well over twenty years, as slowly other students from my high school years are tracking me down there. I let one in, as I liked her, but then the rest are following.

Hmm.

That's exactly what happened to me. A person who everyone knew found me so I added him for the heck of it. And now his multitude of friends are seeing my name and adding me. I don't think I know these people. But I was able to find some friends I had in the military and was able to connect with them again and that was very cool.

Facebook has put me in the odd situation of still being "friends" with the guy who abruptly cut me off after showing intense romantic interest, which is a little awkward. (Why haven't I cut him loose? Because I still harbor the hope he'll contact me one of these days. God, I'm pathetic.)

Yeah, that's pretty much why I'm not on Facebook -- the only thing I'd have to say to 99.999% of the people I went to high school with is "I was kinda hoping you'd died in an incredibly painful and embarrassing manner during the intervening years". But, except for that one guy I hated who really did die in an embarrassing and painful way, the rest of them turn out to be incredibly successful go-getters with 8 houses and 300ft yachts.

Fucking Camarillo.

I only initiate a friend-request with those I know personally (so I'm pretty much over that phase of MyFaceSpaceBook) or really want to follow (one person so far, but a) he friends anyone, and b) he account is more or less "public" anyway). I'll friend back anyone who asks, because it doesn't hurt, and because I don't post anything I wouldn't consider public anyway. Anything I put up on the Intarwebs (even if it's in a friend's locked post on LiveJournal) I consider public.

Have I "friended" people I didn't like in high school on MyFaceSpaceBook? Yes. He initiated it and besides, he apologized for his behavior in high school (at the 10 year school reunion, in person. I was amazed).
