I think it's about time I am critical about movies again, and about time I post about them! This time : X-men Origins: Wolverine

The new wolverine movie has all the elements of a blockbuster: action, drama, and even a love story. It is backed by the almost infallible Marvel label (See the Spider Man sequels to understand what I mean by almost), which just so happens to make stupid profitable movies. Herein lies the problem, however; The tendency for movies nowadays to alter time lines and universes so that sequels and further money making can be possible. Money, Money, Green stuff.

I'll explain what I mean after I pick through the movie a bit. Spoilers...yada yada

To begin, Sabretooth and Wolverine are not brothers, nor did they fight together in wars. (Wolverine actually fought alongside Captain America in WW2 however). Also, there is a severe continuum break between this movie and the X-men series. Wade Wilson (Deadpool) is not Stryker's son, and certainly has none of those powers portrayed at the end of the movie, and is not weapon 11. In X2 Stryker's son is Jason, the little kid that is brainwashed and given a lobotomy in order to control Professor X in an attempt to kill all mutants. Honestly, we can't just Terminator all of our movies and make the realities so askew that none make any sense at all.

I could get mad geek up in here, and keep picking apart the story flaws in the movie. That is the smaller of the problem that I have with movies that do this. The big problem is that WE LACK ORIGINALITY BIG-TIME. In an effort to make boatloads of money, we milk the living shit out of popular characters and series's till we utterly ruin them. It's remake after remake after remake. Jason X? Batman Begins? The whole prequel garbage of Star Wars? I get the fact that this is a money making venue, the movie business, but at what cost? If I think about the movies I really want to see I think of only things that have already established themselves years ago: GI Joe, Transformers. I want to see those movies oh so bad, just for nostalgia's sake, and the fact that they will probably be well made, but it's so very hard to make a series last longer than 3 movies without SUCKING. The only exception is probably 007, but then again, each movie except for the last two never has anything to do with another, and 007 can be any number of actors, because it's believable that a very human character can be replaced after time, especially in an espionage operation.

Where is the originality? At least some book to movie adaptations will do? Matrix/Borne Identity style? STOP RUINING EVERYTHING FROM MY CHILDHOOD, FFS. YOU ARE RAPING IT.

On a related note, Ryan Renolds (the guy playing deadpool/weapon 11) is inked to doing a deadpool solo movie in 2010 or so. HELLO? HE GOT HIS FUCKING HEAD LOPPED OFF AT THE END. Deadpool: From the neck down, in theaters soon.

Really?
Really?
Really?
