Skye was amazing!
we drove up on Friday morning, through the middle of Scotland. stopped at Killiecrankie for lunch, then drove through the glens and beside lochs on the west coast. this time of year it is amazing with the different colours with autumn. it was exciting when we crossed the bridge to Skye, it's somewhere i have always wanted to go, yet only have seen it from the mainland.
we found our hotel in Portree easy enough, and it was gorgeous. Jo had no idea where we were staying and was thinking it would be a crappy B&B. So i highly recommend staying at Marmalade in Portree.
they had a nice wee bar and a restaurant, so we went down for dinner, and oh my god the salmon was amazing! after a few drinks we took a bottle of wine and retired to our room.
Saturday, it rained. but we made the most of it and set out on an adventure. we stopped at a reptile sanctuary and held a snake, drove to Armadale Castle, seat of Clan Macdonald. unfortunately the castle was closed but we still walked around the grounds...in the rain.
a bit more driving, and i had no idea how i kept the car on the road, but we made it back to our hotel. Joanne didn't hesitate to get into the salmon again, and after she devoured that we hit the town. found several pubs, and being Halloween weekend all the kids were dressed up, pretty funny.
Sunday, we drove to the top of Skye, on one of the most scenic drives. we had to give way to cattle a few times, which made it interesting. found Kilt Rock, that was pretty. after doing a loop of Skye we crossed the bridge to go back to the mainland. we stopped at Eilean Donan castle, but missed the closing time by 15mins damn it, just as well, it started pissing with rain again. after stopping in Fort William for dinner, it was straight sailing for Edinburgh
