Intro to Kpop
Ok Brad, I am going to introduce you to k-pop now. You can watch as much or as little as you want and that'll be fine. Just so you know I like boybands, so i may be a little biased lol. Oh and if you hear random English you are not crazy.
Ok first group is Dong Bang Shin Ki-aka Dbsk but they disbanded into two group. They were essentially the biggest group in asia, and my favorite so I will start with them.
Mirotic(Not actually a word. It doesn't mean anything) -This song is about possessing someone because they are under your spell because they like you so much.
JYJ- Get Out. These are 3 of the members who broke off from the whole group. The song is about wanting to get rid of a lover who is cheating on you.
Super Junior is from the same company as DBSK but they have a ridiculous amount of members;13 but some of them have left the group. They are pretty popular for appearing on tv so much, and their dancing is synchronized.

Bonomana- This song is about seeing a girl that you think is beautiful and wanting her to be your girlfriend.
SHINee has a really dumb name but they are one of my favorites lol. They are from the same company as dbsk and sj.
A.Mi.Go-This song has nothing to do with friends even though it's called A.Mi.Go. It's short for something in Korean but i don't remember. It's about feeling captured by a girl because she is so beautiful and wanting her to look at you.
Beast has one of the more western sounds in kpop. I think if you were going to like kpop they would be a good candidate of the group you would like.
Shock- This song is basically just about being electrified by love.
Fiction- This song is about rewriting the past because the present is too hard. The person keeps imagining that he is with his girlfriend even though they brok up.
Big Bang is super popular around the world and they're a little bit more hip hop sounding? But they sound pretty western so you might like them also
Haru Haru(Day by Day)-The video is really korean; they love people dying in movies and stuff causing drama. But the song is about being upset and angry after a break up. The person is trying to live day by day because their heart is so broken. This video is a little confusing but it's a common premise in Korea. The girl leaves her boyfriend and pretends to start dating his friend so that her boyfriend will hate her. She is sick and dying and would rather that the boy she loves hate her, rather than be broken by seeing her die. She dies in the end either way though.
Wedding Dress-This is one of the members from big bang doing a solo project. His name is Taeyang which means sun. This seriously is one of the best songs in kpop. It's just great so LISTEN TO THIS ONE. lol if nothing else. The song is about all the regrets that emerge because you didn't confess your love. Now the person you love is marrying someone else.
Epik High isn't really a pop group. They all speak English and were raised in the U.S. Their sound is more mature and not poppish; they are rappers though so it might be overwhelming to hear. If you can get over the language shock, I think you might like them.
Fan- This song is about the crazy obsessive love of a fan. This is a huge problem in Asia because of the way celebrities are promoted. All of the celebrities are very famous and appear everywhere so there are crazy fans who think they own them. It's pretty interesting.
I'll upload Bad with the English subtitles. It's pretty interesting, it's about a destructive love and features domestic abuse in the video. The song is really good though.
C.N. Blue is still kind of poppy, but they play their own instruments and write their own song so they are kind of borderline rock sometimes. I am a loner-
Ok now time for some girl groups. Honestly, girl groups are just as popular as males, I just tend to not like them as much.
So Nyeo Shi Dae aka SNSD or Girls Generation are the biggest girl group in Korea. They are crazy popular but I don't really know why. They are from the same company as DBSK, SJ and SHINee which is the dominating company in Korea; it's called SM Entertainment and it basically invented kpop so all of their artists are super stars.
This is their new song, it's called The Boys but it's really more of an encouraging song. It's basically saying to get up and do your best because you're awesome.
Gee- Ok this is the most bubble gum song I have possibly ever heard but it is literally one of the biggest songs in kpop ever. Good luck lol. This song really propelled them into super stars. It's just a typical pop song saying they're in love.
Miss A is a girl group from a competing company of SM Entertainment but they are very popular as well. Two of the members are chinese, which isn't unusual for kpop because it widens how far a group can promote in Asia, if they have members who speak other languages. This company tends to be a bit more on the sexy than cute side.
Goodbye Baby- is another song about getting rid of your lover because they are cheating on you and you're sick of it.
2ne1(pronounced twenty one) is from the third big company in Korea, YG Entertainment. They are from the same company as Big Bang so their sounds are kind of similar. They are famous for being different from other girl groups. They wear crazy clothes and feature a very electronic sound. It can get kind of irritating listening to all of the autotune but they are certainly different.
I am the Best-This song is basically just about how awesome they think they are.
4minute is still a developing group in Korea; they are popular but they aren't really one of the dominating groups yet. They are just an example of how a lot of other girl group are but I think they are pretty good.
ok that's it for now! Are you overwhelmed? lol there's a lot more than this but i tried to show you some of the best. There are a lot of really good ballads if that is more of your style and you would like to hear more. There are some really talented solo artists if you like.
