I can't tell you what an utter joy it is to read a fanfic what John is, and what he wasn't. I get so tired of all of the bashing of his character on show and off that it has nearly driven me from watching the show altogether. Nearly. It's fic like this that reminds me just how much I do love the show,and that not everyone feels that way about his character. Thank you SO much for writing this!

Aww, thank you! Yes, a THOUSAND times yes to what you said, it is a shame, really, how John is treated in fanfic and in the show! He doesn't deserve that! He's just a human being, like Sam and Dean, he has his weaknesses, he has his flaws, but he also has his strenghts and he DID love his boys, no matter how much people want to believe that he didn't. The writers turned him into a joke, if you ask me, it's so unfair how they treat him and I'm just shaking my head at that. I have and always will love(d) that guy and I will never ever write him as a bastard. Promise! I'm SO happy that you like this, it's people like you who keep me writing! :)

I loved this introspective and yet light hearted look at the boys and John.

I absolutely love the permission John gives to both Dean and then later Sam to have some fun, to be kids.

I love most that John joins in.

Well done.

The funny thing is, I still have no idea how old Sam and Dean are in that snippet, I think Dean must be around 18 since the Impala somehow feels like his already, but I guess it could even work if they are younger or older. And John joining the boys was one of the things I enjoyed most about writing it.
