I watched you disappear

Apparently I'm still focused on John-angst pre-series, I keep coming up with snippets all the time. I love writing them down, it's such a nice break from other things I should be working on. Once again my awesome cyber-twin has convinced me to keep writing and I'll be forever thankful for her love and support these days, even when she has already ( Read more... )

Lovely, just lovely. Would you consider posting this to The Backroads? http://community.livejournal.com/the_backroads/

Wow, you are fast! :)

The only John-com I've heard of so far was "Papa Winchester", I just went to The Backroads to have a look and I'm happy I did, sounds just like a place I'd love to post (and read!). Thank you so much for telling me it exists!

First, I love that you are focused on John Pre-series. Pre-series is just about the only thing I write. What? I have an addiction! Do you mind if I friend? Us John-girls have got to stick together. I tend to write the boys as teenagers which puts a different spin on how John reacts to them and they him. But wee!boys just melt my heart.

This was perfect. We hear of John's drinking in both canon and fandom. I think it's true, he probably did drink a little too much sometimes. But the way you presented it here, John's strong for his boys, during the day but at night while they are safely asleep he lets some of his guard down. It seems so plausible. I like too that it is Sam who wakes his father, not Dean. (I love Dean but it is nice to know that John depended on Sammy too) Not necessarily in the way we normally expect, but to ground him, to remind him of who he is and what he is.

This last image of Sam curled into Dad is beautiful.

Thank you.

Just friended you back, how could I ever say no to that? :D You're actually the first John-girl I friended and you're sooo right, we gotta stick together, he needs every fan he can get ( ... )

I could never really grasp John as a character.

John is a tough character. He was put into extraordinary circumstances and made it work. Sort of. My thoughts on John is that no matter how bad it seems, he's doing it out of love for the boys. Even his "obsession with the thing that killed mom" proved not just to be an obsession. John KNEW it was after his family and later knew it was after Sam. How much he knew? I don't know if we will ever be privy to that. But if you look at that as what drove him to be the father that he was - well you may not agree, but you can understand.

My John (and doesn't that have a nice ring to it) tends to be a shade harsher than some John-girls paint him, but the premise is always the same. He's tough and made his boys even tougher because the alternative was to let them die and that was never gonna happen.

If you like John and want to read some amazing stuff, check out dodger_winslow. Her journal is one of the best places to read some John. Just make sure you have your reading glasses on! The girl likes to

I absolutely agree with you, whatever he did somehow always comes back to him protecting them, even if we (or they) can't always see it. Anything else would be totally ooc for him. The "how much did he know" issue is one thing that's bugging me about him, I know he has his reasons for doing what he's done so he must have known quite a lot.

I know dodger_winslow, I've read some of her stories, the only "problem" I have with her is that she writes such a strong John that, right now, while still trying to find 'my' John (and YES, such a nice ring to that! :) ) I'm not sure if I'd just be copying hers. Which I wouldn't want to. And yes, I'm all for painting him in a harsher-light, I don't need him to be all cuddly (well, with a few exceptions, like the story above ;) ) but I also don't want him to be a monster, I want him human. So, yeah, totally agreeing with you!

This is brilliant and beautiful and is going into my permanent file.

I think this is part of my personal canon now.

Wow, thank you so much, I'm SO happy this reads right, I'm often not sure if I get emotional fics out the way I want them to be read. I'm glad this worked!
