Swedish/English discrepancy

I just finished reading the second book in the Temeraire series. This time I read it translated to Swedish, whereas I read it in the original English the first time. And I noticed a lot of various things I didn't notice before, which made me wonder a lot of things ( Read more... )

For starters, hermeneutics. Yes, the second reading of a text will undoubtedly differ from the first. Since you know what will happen, things that were subtle foreshadowings in the first reading will stand out more in the second, and so on. You also pay less attention to the primary themes such as the plot (since, again, you know what will happen) and more attention to secondary themes, the sublime, the hinted-at etc ( ... )
