Monkey Island Special Edition

Le sigh. I would happily pay a tenner so I could buy any philistine (i.e. non-monkey-island-playing) friends of mine a copy of the original Secret of Monkey Island, updated to run on current computers. Unfortunately, that option will not be available. Instead you'll be able to buy a fuck-ugly 'remake' for the price of a new game. Here, see what I ( Read more... )

Actually, if you look at the developers walkthrough, it's very well done. It's exactly the same as the original but with updated graphics and there is full voicework done by the same people that did the voices for the later games. Also, you can press one button and immediately switch right back to the original graphics on the fly without loading or going to a menu screen or something. I look at this as a good thing because it will introduce a new generation to an awesome IP.

Yeah, I know. I'll still have to pay for stuff I don't want in the first place just to get the original, though. It's like having to pay $20 for a copy of Nevermind that comes with a second CD of Nickelback covering all the songs.

And yeah, it's still going to make Monkey Island available to people who don't feel like futzing around with ScummVM or DosBox, which is good.

looks like they hired Dreamworks to re-do the artwork. ya know every time someone mentions this it reminds me that it's one game that i've never played or seen played or know anything about but it seems everyone else has played it. Then I try to remember to go find a download but always forget. Ehe maybe one day.

Hopefully it'll be like $20 or $25 for the thing with the ugly new graphics; it'll still have the old ones tucked away behind a switch.

It's real good, I highly recommend it. I think 3 (still pretty good) and 4 (pretty OKish) still work on current 'puters too, they're probably like $10 now.

I don't like what they've done to his face. He was a kid going "OMG", now he's a dude going "I am so the man, lolz".
