Wow...what a drama queen! It doesn't sound like trying to explain, or getting her to realize that what you said wasn't even all that bad, just light venting, and she just took it and ran with it. Maybe you should ignore anything she says in this vein, and be completely polite and respond to anything she manages to say otherwise. With a smile. If nothing else, she'd be pissed and end up with no retort, and you could be silently giggling the whole time ;)

*hugs* I am not thinking very clearly, so that probably isn't good advice or helpful, but bleh. Dunno how much it would affect the rest of your family, but well, I'd probably end up with her the same way I am with my dad--not speaking at all. It eventually becomes such a peaceful thing most of the time ;)
