Every time I watch War and Peace (whether it is the 1956 version with Audrey Hepburn or the new TV-mini series) I can't help but long for some nice fan fiction with alternate ending for Andrei and Natasha. I like Pierre alright but he just doesn't have it in him and Andrei needs to be written as someone more than killing machine/alpha male/turned ( Read more... )

But I guess War and Peace isn't popular enough to have an English-speaking fandom... *sigh*

But I assume you have looked. I have yet to be disappointed when I did searches, I have found fanfiction on even relatively obscure new fiction, seems like somewhere there would be something for "War and Peace". But since not, you might want to request one at Yuletide next year - it is an lj for the "Obscure Fandom Fanfic Exchange" and a really charming idea. I have found some wonderful nuggets there.

So, how is the diss coming?

I googled it, checked ff.net and skyehawke. Any other place where I should look?:-)

I'm procrastinating and it shows:-)

One day I will read War & Peace. Is it hard going/depressing/political? I know nothing about it (and I did English lit. Woe!).

Septimus rules! Stardust was such a wonderful film. I'll definately be buying it on DVD when it's out.

Yay Septimus!:-)

War and Peace is LONG;-) I think that I read it 7 years ago or something skipping landscape & battle descriptions - so I should probably read it again and not feed on the movies only:-)

Absolutely. It was such a suprise! And I loved his make-believe relationship with his crew:) The first mate was the best, of course.

I was too young to watch the TV miniseries (70s version) of War and Peace with my family when it was first broadcast, but I remember there was a family tradition of groans all around and much arguing with the TV set whenever Andrei showed up. Why, exactly, I don't remember, but he really got their backs up.

When I saw the rerun in the 80s, I fell in love with Pierre. He's still my favorite. I also continued the tradition of yelling "Oh, for God's sake, Andrei!" at random moments.

I must say I'm not the biggest fan of Pierre - I like him, but he leaves me luke-warm. But I'm not really all for Andrei either - he annoys me to no end, as many super-male romantic heroes that need to be rewritten so badly.
What I don't like about War and Peace is that it's so much anti-women in the general take (and you can easily see how Tolstoy imagines the perfect woman, meek and sacrificing, of course; Natasha is very ambivalent at times) and that in men such as Andrei there are two extremes, really: war and Christianity, which all in all is sooo boring & simplified.

Hence my need for fics;-)

I'll write you an Andrei/Natasha in exchange for a Dolokhov/Sonya :p
