Do you think laser printers have negative health effects? I've not heard of any. Normally, people wouldn't be subjected to the powdered ink unless they tried to change the drum themselves -- and this is the first time in 5 years of owning it that the drum needed changing.
there are studies showing they put out vocs, particulate matter, ozone, and formaldehyde, all in high enough amounts to have a negative impact on health. i started having seizure like episodes around our laser printer years ago, before i was ever diagnosed with mcs; every time it was on, not just printing, i'd have to leave the room. it got bad enough that we gaveit away and got an inkjet instead, and i have far fewer problems with those; the damp pages give me a headache, but if they're 10+ feet away to dry i don't even notice them.
Ah. Well, it's a good thing the printer is in a completely different room with a closed door. We just send info to the printer and then go pick it up at our leisure.
So, are ink jets healthier? I wouldn't think so. They definitely cost more in the long run.

maybe it's a sign from the divine to invest in a printer with few negative health effects?
