... when we look back on all the dorky things we've done.
So, without further ado, 'tis time for
1. Your main fandom of the year: Yeah... Doctor Who. More on that later
2. Your favorite film this year: Hm... Deathly Halows by sheer merit of that fact that not only did I not hate it, I enjoyed it, even? No, actually, I think it's going to be Toy Story 3.
I cried. Dear God, I cried.
3. Your favorite book this year: I'v just finishe the Hunger Games trilogy, and whilst I enjoyed having it cut my soul with razors coated in baby tears quite a bit, I'm certain it wasn;t my favourite this year. Wait, let me check the book rack... Yup, it's a three-way tie between "One Year" by D. Nicholls, "Freedom" by Jonathan Franzen and "The Writer's Tale" by Rusty McSnowflake. And "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer. and "Over Coffee" by Paul Madonna. And "There's nothing funny about Design"... DAMMIT, don't make me choose, okay?
4. Your favorite album or song this year: "Sigh no More" by Mumford and Sons. "Contra" by Vampire Weekend. "Oh Children" by Nick Cave. "Invaders must die" by the Prodigy. "Not while I'm around" by Jamie Cullum, though I was sadly underwhelmed by the new album.
Yeah, choosing: There won't be any.
5. Your favorite TV show this year: Modern Family, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who. Also glad to see HIMYM is picking up its pace again.
6. Your favorite LJ community this year: [info]starwhales. They're aweshum and love ALL the things.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year: Doctor Who. Doctor Who. Doctor Who. I finally sat down to watch "that show" three days or so after "The end of Time" aired. I was to a certain degree aware of the cultural phenomenon as such, but only by Osmosis. Really, all I knew was that, apparently, that shit was dope and I was missing out. So, Within 2 weeks I watched the whole of the new series, I'd find myself at 3 am going "Aww, come on. One more episode *click* despite the fact that I had to get up at 7.30h for a full day of interning and it FUCKING. CHANGED. MY. LIFE. I love that show. I love how the premise allows for a different show to take place every week. I love the character development. I love the moral. I love the emotional writing of RTD. Haters: please familiarise yourselves with the left-hand evacuation procedure. Good thing I love Moff just as much (have loved him ever since "Coupling".) I adore 11 to bits and I cannot wait for the christmas special. I have only just scratched at the surface of classic Who. DW is for life, and I love it. I read "The writer's Tale", I went to the DW Exhibition in Cardiff and the DW Prom in London.
DW is having hot chocolate in my heart with X Files, Harry Potter, Remington Steele and Rurouni Kenshin. You'll have to pry my Ten action figure from my dead, cold hands.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: Glee. My mind has flounced, and all that remains is an empty husk staring at the screen week after week, occasionally emitting snark. And not the loving kind.
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year:
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year:
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: "This is Gallifrey" played live at the Royal Albert Hall.
Getting my HP related Tattoo.
Hearing they're planning to turn "Rurouni Kenshin" into a live action film.
12. Your most missed old fandom: X Files. 2008 was such a BEAST of a fandom year for XF, you can't help but miss it. I also spend three days this summer marathoning with a friend and, man: That show owns me, heart and soul. Or, actually.. Mulder and Scully do. Bottom line: you still cannot beat XF. It was my fandom before I even knew what a fandom is. 16 years of the 25 years TPTB have failed to correct their mistake and smite me from this planet have been spend as an XF fan. I'd probably still take it over ALL my other fandoms. It's that great. As are teh friends I amde through it. So I cannot help but wish my forum was still as active as it used to be.
13. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? The Office US. I've been meaning to get into it for ages.
14. Your biggest anticipation of the New Year: More Doctor Who. Deathly Hallows part II. Getting into Grad school. Oh, wait. That's not fandom related. My bad.
