Normally, I'm a fairly passive guy. Sure I'm a little out there, and a little arrogant at times, but generally not offensive and I keep my temper in check. I mean this to say that I very rarely have the urge to hurt someone. Maybe not, but then there's always a slim chance he'll use what happened as motivation to better himself, at least to the extent that he doesn't try to cut other people down so much anymore.
And if the situation presented itself somewhere he wouldn't be further embarrassed, you could always apologize.

Well it may not be a good thing, but at the same time being a doormat is not a good thing either.

And hopefully he'll take the opportunity to take a look at himself and decide if he wants to make a change.

And look at it this way, the guy sounds like he was a dick and yet you're feeling bad about giving him the verbal double orechotomy he most likely deserved, that just shows you're a better person than he is. I doubt he ever felt remorse for heckling someone else.

All I can do is say that given the context, I would've done exactly the same thing and felt much better because of it. WHat that says about us I'll leave to you. -_-

You're a good guy for feeling bad about it, but you know what? He'll live. And he'll think twice next time before judging someone else for something he obviously knows nothing about.
