Kind of a little SOS

I need help, is anyone out there familiar wist SAS (Statistical Analysis Software)? I have to use it to do a project for my Econometrics class and I can't figure it out for the life of me. If anyone out there can help me with this over the weekend I would be eternally grateful. Sadly I seem to have exhausted my lines of inquiry here. No one in the ( Read more... )

Between Excel and actual computer languages, I can usually bang out whatever data I need from a raw dataset. On the other hand, I haven't used SAS in years, and never got past n00b at it even then.

If you specifically need this program and its functionality, or if your data is locked up in some difficult-to-use format, then I'm afraid I won't be of much help. If, on the other hand, you just need some statistical analysis and you're willing to explain exactly what you want figured out, I'd be glad to help you out.

Do you have any familiarity with python? Fair warning in advance, that's going to be my first recourse if the analysis is in any way complex.

Theoretically we're supposed to use SAS but I still think it's better to get the analysis done so I can write my report then just be unable to do it.

All I need to figure out how to get SAS to do is this. I have a data set on fish sales (yes fish sales, is what he gave me) and the problem is is that because of a simultaneity problem I can't just create a price on quantity regression, because I don't know if I'm plotting the demand curve or the supply curve or both. However, I have information on the ocean conditions for the days right before the sales. What I need to figure out how to get SAS to do is to use those ocean conditions attributes to create a faux supply model by turning them into instrumental variables. And this is where I get stuck, I don't know how to do this, and when I do manage to think I get it I can't manage to get SAS to understand the new variables.

Any advice or help you can give on this would be greatly appreciated because I am lost.

Keep in mind that I haven't used statistics in years, so you'll have to re-explain certain concepts for me. For example: I don't even know what a simultaneity problem is ( ... )

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/research/sas/training/v8/

That's the closest thing to useful that the web-searches popped up - maybe what you need is there...? I hope so. Otherwise I'm kinda short on ideas. :(

That teacher really sounds like the devil.

Unfortunately, I've only used SPSS, and that was long ago. Otherwise, I'd offer all the help I can give. :|
