What do you do when you hurt ALL OVER?

Nov 15, 2009 10:11

Next year I'll have more personal time available and more money in my flexible spending account, and my plans include some long-overdue medical attention. In addition to the elevated blood sugar (for which I am taking metformin) and the incipient menopausal stuff (which I'm dealing with reasonably well -- humor goes a long way), there is the more ( Read more... )

Thank you! I do find that mild stretching before I try anything radical like, y'know, walking across the room after getting out of bed, keeps me from having too much unpleasantness. I'll be more mindful of that and hopefully it will get me through the end of the year. My favorite cousin is coming for Christmas; she likes to walk and I wanted to be able to give her a little tour of downtown.

I'll keep you posted...

Hope your holidays are fun.

For back spasms, there's nothing like that pill, the one for..um, back spasms. Can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Only by prescription; you take it at bedtime and it'll knock you out.
I didn't use to believe any pill could wipe out a thrown-out back or the like, until I tried this new (the doctor assured me)thing.
It was a miracle.
The stuff's not a painkiller, it's strictly a muscle-spasm-relaxing drug.

When I woke up the next day, my back pain that had plagued me all week was just GONE. And stayed that way.
Doc explained to me that the body really only needs a break from the spasms, and then it can heal itself.

You may not have thrown your back out per se, nor done anything so drastic all at once, but that's the way it goes. You think you had a good day, but the next morning you wake up to pain.

Anyway, if you can describe what I said to your doctor maybe he'll give you some.

Much luck, in any case.

Thanks, HB, and are you thinking of Flexeril? I took that many years ago (in combination with Lodine), and yeah, it sure does knock you out.

If that's what the doctor prescribes, I'll take it. Just wondering if there's some chronic underlying structural thing going on that will persist. I have an appointment scheduled for next Wednesday, so ve shall see.

Thanks!!

Hmm. Ever been to a chiropractor?

My ex-wife's back is all jacked up, issues with scoliosis - and she really messed something up in 2004, for weeks and weeks. Terrible, terrible pain, etc.

Finally, her friend turned her onto a chiropractor, and he fixed her right up. Now, every time something gets re-jacked up, she just goes up there for a few days and shazam, it's fixed.

Thanks -- I haven't resolved this yet (other issues have arisen, alas...), but am on the fence with regard to a chiro. I worry about having to keep going back forever, or worse, getting a weird one who likes to experiment... I've heard some horror stories.

I figure, life's OK as long as I can get to work without fallin' down.

Hope your New Year is great!
