shore duty

hey

has anyone had their SO go from a ship to shore duty ? particularly fort meade? my bf has been on a ship for the past 4 years and is switching to shore duty. just wanted to know any pros/cons? experiences ?

Fort Meade is small but nice. It's located near DC and Baltimore and Annapolis so there is a plethora of things to do. The commissary is really nice too. I was there with my ex during his AIT.

BTW - all the branches of the military are there even though it's considered an Army post- for example my ex was Army but we had friends that were AF, Navy/Marines, and CG who were stationed there for numerous reasons.

EVERYONE at Ft. Meade goes to Anne Arundel Mall (my spelling is probably off) - it's like the weekend pow-wow. It's really awesome - has a Medieval Times and a movie theater - loads of shops.

I wish we were stationed there - instead of po-dunk Fort Polk, Louisiana where the only mall within 50 miles is Walmart (I'm not kidding!).

You'll enjoy it there!

I'm at Ft. Meade. It's nice, the PX and commissary are pretty nice, the mall is quite close. There are lots of other restaurants not far. Other than the summer blackouts, it's pretty nice.

haha pretty much, except it's not quite as cool as brooklyn. :P

also, i totally recommend the chinatown bus for visiting-- way cheaper, easy to get to.

the command being a little more relaxed is good ! things on the ship have been crazy. he will be going to a specialized school for 3 years so he cant go IA for at least that time. or so they say. but thanks for the info !
