a note on nomenclature

There are many completely rediculous names for birds. The "Hudsonian godwit" comes to mind, as does the "bristle-thighed curlew," and the "ferruginous pigmy-owl," but perhaps the award for most ridiculous named bird in North America goes to the fulvous whistling duck. When I was a kid, I thought the "Yellow-bellied Sapsucker" was a made up name used to satirize bird names ...

I used to think Blue-Footed Booby was a completely ridiculous name, until I actually saw one. Then I realized how perfect it was.
