Short version: I met Mike in college, he went off and joined the Army, while in the Army, met and befriended Sam. They both got sent off to Iraq (after being taught Korean! I shit you not) and last January Mike told me to write to Sam. And I did, and we corresponded all year via email and IM, adding in phone when he returned in December. He got out of the Army altogether this month, and came and stayed here for five days on his way back to his family.

And yes, that is the short version. :)
