Try to post again the same think (opening a new post) to see if it works fine. Sometimes LJ gets silly and all you have to do is delete that entry and post it again.

Btw, never said thank you for responding to my plea in the wilderness. Thank you! It did turn out LJ was being silly, and I'm used to that, but this was two days of silliness, so I was starting to think it was something complicated and permanent!

I don't know if you're looking to friend my personal journal or the fic journal, but sure, either one's great.

And yeah, the LJ thing worked itself out on its own after all. LJ was just being it's quirky self, as it turned out.
