Well, if this didn't get me to post, nothing will

It's been so long since I've posted something here, that when I logged back in tonight, I was confronted by the confusion of the top four posts in my friends list being spam from a hijacker using my brother's account that he abandoned years ago and I never unfriended. Seemed somehow appropriate for the first post since the election ( Read more... )

Dude, I can't even with Rudy Guiliani. My feelings about him are too complicated. I feel he's like a very bad ex-boyfriend. 'Cept I never chose him. A co-worker said he's probably disappointed because he honestly wanted a cushy, well-paid job in Trump's business but now, look what happened. Dude, Guiliani always said he wanted out before 9/11. He ain't getting out. Is he going to make the most of it? Of course he is. And to be honest, I'd rather Rudy run this country than Trump. And what sort of madness is that?

As rap541 used to say, it's like the end of days. But not really. It's more like the US after Reconstruction. Welcome to Jim Crow. I'm surprised by the election and not surprised. This is what the US does and has done.

I fear we have put a bunch of clowns in charge of the country at a time when we are on the precipice of a rapidly changing geopoltical world stage that we are still struggling to understand, are on the cusp of the dramatic effects of worldwide climate change, and are circling the drain of an oncoming ( ... )

Yeah, every time I have that moment of realization that this is real, he is really going to be our next president - I'm... somewhere between numb and nauseated.

Thank you for reading here, Rose!

I'm sorry I took so long to respond. I went through a mourning period for several days, and then I started trying to get over it and focus on what I could do to fight back. I think it will hit me again when January 20 comes around, but for now, I'm finding little ways to speak my mind and trying to find bigger ones, which is harder.

I'm thinking about the Trump businesses boycott and I'm in the process of writing to my representatives to inform them that I expect them to be vigilant watchmen (watchpeople?) in the House and Senate and to stand up for civil rights and the good of our state and nation. These are small steps, but they are a start until I find something more.

Yeah, I'm just doing what I can actually do at this point - planning to contact representatives starting next week, when (presumably) they're back from Thanksgiving vacation.

I agree with every word. I've been doing so much ranting on FaceBook and Tumblr, I am too exhausted to say much else. Except that all politicians are imperfect vessels, because all people are imperfect vessels. Even Obama. I also think Hillary is clean when it comes to the foundation, I was paying attention to that. But it doesn't matter. I think a combination of poor education, misogyny, downright criminal negligence on the part of the mainstream media, and the FBI swung this election. I wonder what Giuliani's exact payoff is going to be for his machinations within the FBI.

Well, anyway. Things were already bad, now they are much worse. All we can do is hold on to our anger and use it to resist.
