Had these requested by one of my friends who isn't on LJ, but I thought I'd post them here as long as I was writing the tuts anyway :) I did both of these graphics a while back and while I still have the .psd's saved, I may not remember all of the little details, but I'll do my best.
Done in PS 7, but should translate.
Make these 2 graphics:
Okay doing the Rose McGowen one first :)
Make a new blank canvas at which ever size you'd like. I usually do mine on a white background, but you can use what ever color you'd like.
First I wanted to add some color to my white canvas and I wanted them to be kind of softer colors so I chose a couple of pinkish colors
#D1A294
#D09274
Then using a soft brush I applied each of the colors randomly on seperate layers. I then went ahead and added a layer mask to each on incase I want to take away from of the color later on.
Alright, next I added my first picture and used a layer mask to get rid of the background on the picture and to blend it in with the colors that I applied. I then duplicated it twice and set each one to soft light 100%
I added my next picture and did the same thing as I did with the first except I only deplicated the picture once and desaturated the duplicate.
Next I added this texture from
http://www.krisnreine.com/resources.html and set it to Overlay 100%
the I added a gradient map adjustment layer and set the blend mode to multiply. It looks like the colors I used for the gradient was a brownish(#795900) on the left side fading to white on the right (id on't rememer any of this! LOL)
Next I added this texture, motion blurred it and set it to Screen 100%
I then added a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer and downed the Saturation a bit.
Then I repeated those two steps
i then added a black and white gradient map adjustment layer and set the blend mode to multiply. You may have to adjust the amount of black and white to your liking and your picture.
Next I took another picture and scaled it down to about 200x200 and pasted it onto my graphic. I set it to Soft Light 100% and then duplicated it and set it to Overlay 100% and desaturated it.
Then I added this frame brush from
http://www.damnedinblack.net/brushes.htm and duplicated the layer twice
Okay, next I made a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer right above that last duplcate layer of my first picture that I added. With the colorize box ticked I adjusted the hue to a yellowish color like this:
Finally a made a new layer below my color layers(the very first ones I did) and added this rose brush from
http://www.strangeangels.net/
and added ny text using the Holmes001 font.
Okay, next the Johnny Depp graphic:
Okay, I started out with this texture from ???(please let me know if you kn0w. Thanks!)
I went to Image>>Ajdust>>Hue/Saturation and then checked the colorize box and then played around with the sliders until I got this grungy brownish looking color.
Okay, next I put on my main picture. I used a layer mask to get rid of the parts of the back ground that I didn’t want. I set the layer to Overlay 100% and then duplicated it twice. The first copy was also Overlay 100% and the 2nd copy I set to normal 48%
Next I wanted to put my side pictures on so I put 2 polaroid brushes on separate layers(I’m sorry, I don’t know who the brushes are from either…I usually label my layers whose things I’m using but this one I didn’t for some reason. And usually I can identify brushes if I don’t have it down…I know I should know this one, but I don’t)
Then I chose the 2 pictures that I wanted to use. I scaled them way down and then pasted them on top of the polaroids. I set each one to Hard Light 100% and the them duplicated at set that to Overlay 50%. And then I added some tape brushes from
the_indy.
Okay, this is where things start getting a little fuzzy of how I did things in what order so I’ll just go in the order of my layers and it should be pretty close
On the polaroids, I added my text in Holmes101 at 38pt, some splat brushes from
ewanism and a watercolor brush from Imagination
http://nadine.fan-arts.net/
Next I added this texture from Hybrid Genesis
http://hybrid-genesis.net/
I set it to Overlay 100% and then added a black and white gradient map(Layer>>new Adjustment Layer>>Gradient Map) set to Multiply to darken up the colors a bit. Make sure when you do this that you click the ‘Group with previous layer’ button because we only want to add the gradient map to the texture.
Next I took this texture to add some more grunginess and texture. It is also from Hybrid Genesis. I didn’t like the color for this particular piece so I used the Hue/Saturation to give it the brown coloring like I did in the very first texture. I then set it to Overlay 100%
Next this texture from Scooly…the link I have bookmarked doesn’t work anymore so if any knows…
I set it to Overlay 100% and then added a black and white gradient map set to Multiply to darken up the colors a bit. Make sure when you do this that you click the ‘Group with previous layer’ button because we only want to add the gradient map to the texture.
I made a new layer and filled it with a dark blue..i used # 0A1933 and set it to Exclusion 100%
I made another new layer and filled it with black and set it to Softlight 32%
I took this texture, also from Scooly and pasted it on top of everything and added a layer mask. Then using a soft brush with the opacity lowered, I took away some of the middle of the texture, leaving only the edges. Don’t completely take out the middle, but enough to be able to see your image underneath. Does that make any sense? LOL
Finally on top of everything, I added another black and white Gradient Map set to Multiply to darken things up and give it a nice dark, grungy feel.
