Today's title is from Welcome to Night Vale and today's journal is copy-pasted from my forum post in Flight Rising (with some of the swearing repaired because, although not as bad as Neopets, FR's profanity filter is a pain in the arse).

Pre-Warning: I'm going to talk about nightmares and sleep paralysis so if that freaks you out, read with ( Read more... )

Oh, this wasn't lucid dreaming. Although lucidity and sleep paralysis are linked, they're a bit different.

Lucid dreaming is when you're asleep and dreaming and are aware that you're dreaming. This is awesome - I learned to do it on purpose because it makes nightmares controllable. If I know I'm dreaming, I can tell the monster to fuck off and go prance around on a sunny beach until I wake up. :D

Sleep paralysis, on the other hand, sucks. Sleep paralysis is when you are mentally awake and conscious, but your body is still paralysed because you haven't woken up 'properly' enough to move. Basically, you naturally paralyse when you reach deep sleep and it's totally normal and healthy, but if you wake up too fast from deep sleep you can accidentally half wake up and then be hallucinating with your eyes open and unable to move ... suckage occurs, basically ( ... )

Hehe, sorry for the rant. Lucid dreaming is something lots of people get confused about (I've known one person who thought it was a fancy word for nightmares) and I have a tendency to POUNCE WITH KNOWLEDGE.

Honestly, my boyfriend complained way too much about those cuddle wounds. :p Yes, here's hoping for good nights of sleep all around!
