All things must end.

For thousands upon uncounted thousands of years, it has been the single driving desire of the being known as the Orannis, the Destroyer, Ninth of the Bright Shiners: to witness the destruction of all things.

Some dreams do come true... even if not exactly as one might have wished. All things are indeed ending, but the final victory is not the Destroyer's.

The combined efforts of those standing so valiantly in place of the Seven have succeeded. Blown by waves of wind and lightning-flame, driven by a sword of power and shifted by rumbling earth and the glorious song of the Eighth, its sibling, the gleaming sphere that is Orannis is borne inexorably backward until at the last it slides through the portal of the Darkgate -- and vanishes, irretrievably lost into the dimension beyond.

The Doctor feels it instantly, the jerk of Time being pulledtwistedbroken.

He feels it, too, when the crack bursts from the strain, spilling its light out into the bar. All around him, people running or hiding or fighting suddenly aren't and never were.

And he feels it when Jack wakes up, the fixed point being pulled along with the rest of reality, unable to be free of it.

"Took your time, didn't you?"

Jack hauls in another breath, rough and straining before trying to speak--

The pauses, and cricks his neck with a very painful sound sideways and a muffled groan of agony.

After a brief ( and s t r e t c h e d ) moment, he tries again.

"--ck off..."

Then he turns onto one side and indluges in a coughing fit.

It's usually a bit faster than this.

Fucking ow.

"You'd like that too much, Captain. Now pull yourself together, I need your help."

Ow.

Okay.

Ow.

"Ow."

Jack pulls himself up to a sitting position, eyes bleary and face pale, but far more alert.

"What're we lookin' at?"

"As far as I can tell, the end of reality. I think you may have just bought us some time, but not much."

The Doctor scans the crack, the front door, and Jack himself with the sonic screwdriver, comparing the readings. The news isn't good.

"Good. Okay. Get Gwen to hold the back way. Tosh can--"

Wait.

No.

No, no.

A second or two of silence, and Jack draws a gun from under his coat, more focused.

"Sure. Let's do it. Who are--"

The Doctor gets a fairly intense stare for a moment.

"--You."

The Doctor sees it the moment the penny drops in Jack's mind.

"Hello, Captain. Long time."

That bastard.

...Says somebody.

But it's certainly not Jack, judging by the emotion behind his frozen expression.

"Well, hell of a time to turn up," he says, unfreezing to smile as bright as ever.
Please.

"Jealous?" the Doctor shoots back, grinning. Because it's hard not to when Jack's around. Even at the end of all things.

"Excuse you, I am immortal and unending perfection," Jack replies, mock-outraged.

"You're the one who looks like you're still in college. If not jailbait."

BRING IT.

"Like that's ever stopped you." Because really? Pretty much everyone is jailbait compared to Jack.

"That's not a gray hair, is it?"

Yes, all of reality is falling down around their ears, and they're trading good-natured barbs.

:O

"Please, I have plenty of choice in the fun age ranges."

The ones with some experience. :D

He's almost tempted to ask how old the Doctor's latest companion is, but... something about that's too close to home.

Yeah. Still hurts.

"Don't make me shoot you, place is enough of a mess."

...

"Speaking of... what the hell happened?"

The Doctor shakes his head. "As near as I can tell, the Top Ten Best Apocalypses in the Multiverse are all happening here at the same time." He points back toward the crack above the bar. "Including mine."

Jack looks up, and stares - uncomprehending, but with the sick feeling of not good not good not good there to give him a vague idea.

"...Okay," he says.

"Uh. Plan?"
