The butcher block countertops may be a drag, but I love the fact that they're repurposed bowling lanes! On nights with a full moon, do you hear phantom bowlers? 😀

They have been replaced twice at this point - first with prefabs and now with the ones the cute guy made.

A cat lived for two weeks in that house? Was it full of cat urine and poo! Wow! Sounds like a neat-o house in spite of everything.

My old house was built in 1927. One of the built-in drawers was made from a fruit crate. So yeah, I get it.

Neither plumbing nor closets were original to my house -- 1927 would be right on the edge of that divide, depending on your location.

Yikes. Minion and I are preparing to buy a house now, and we're hoping we will find our dream home, but there's a lot of horror stories out there! I hope you've at least been able to make it feel like a part of you and have attached good memories to it.

We are coming up on 40 years in here (next June,) so it is our "forever home" by default.
I still have a dream home pictured in my head. Since mine has nothing in common with his, the dream home will never happen.

Buying a house can be chancy, even when you can see it first hand. Home improvement projects are endless, especially when previous owners have been so creative. While I'm sure none of this has been fun for you, it was certainly fun to read. You used just the right tone.
