Oscar Noms?

Jan 22, 2008 18:22

Hollywood is buzzing!
I bet you are pleasantly suprised!

Does anyone remember that Oscar Nominations where announced this morning?

Here they are the major ones, with my hopefuls noted......

Best Motion Picture of the Year
Nominees:
Atonement
Juno     THE ONLY BEST PIC NOM THAT IVE SEEN, SO AS OF RIGHT NOW, IM ROOTING FOR THIS.  WHEN I SEE "NO COUNTRY..." AND "....BLOOD" SOON, MY OPINION MIGHT, AND HONESTLY, PROBABLY WILL CHANGE.
Michael Clayton
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Nominees:
George Clooney for Michael Clayton
Daniel Day-Lewis for There Will Be Blood
Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street AGAIN, THE ONLY NOM THAT I'VE SEEN, SO BY DEFAULT, IM ROOTING FOR JOHNNY.  HOWEVER AGAIN, I DONT THINK THE PERFORMANCE WAS OSCAR WORTHY, SO MY OPINIONS WILL PROBABLY CHANGE.
Tommy Lee Jones for In the Valley of Elah
Viggo Mortensen for Eastern Promises

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Nominees:
Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie for Away from Her
Marion Cotillard for Môme, La ITS A BETWEEN ELLEN PAGE AND MARION COTILLARD, FOR THE ONLY NOMS THAT IVE SEEN.  MARION PERFORMANCE WAS SPOT ON, AND ONE OF MY FAVS OF THE YEAR.
Laura Linney for The Savages
Ellen Page for Juno

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Nominees:
Casey Affleck for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Javier Bardem for No Country for Old Men
Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War
Hal Holbrook for Into the Wild
Tom Wilkinson for Michael Clayton
I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OF THESE NOMS, BUT BESIDES THE "NO COUNTRY...." NOM, I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE OTHER ACTORS.  SO BLINDLY, IM ROOTING FOR JAVIER.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Nominees:
Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There.
Ruby Dee for American Gangster
Saoirse Ronan for Atonement
Amy Ryan for Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton ANOTHER BLIND VOTE, HAVENT SEEN ANY OF THESE NOMS, BUT TILDA IS ON OF MY FAVORITE ACTRESS'S.  I'D LOVE TO SEE HER WIN FOR ANYTHING SHE DOES.

Best Achievement in Directing
Nominees:
Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood
Ethan Coen, Joel Coen for No Country for Old Men
Tony Gilroy for Michael Clayton
Jason Reitman for Juno
Julian Schnabel for Scaphandre et le papillon, Le THIS AND JUNO ARE THE THE ONLY ONES, IVE SEEN.  I LIKED THIS A LOT, BUT TIME WILL TELL IF MY OPINIONS CHANGE.

Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen
Nominees:
Juno THE ONLY NOM IN THIS CATEGORY THAT IVE SEEN.  I DONT UNDERSTAND THE HYPE WITH THIS MOVIE, IT WAS GOOD, BUT NO BETTER THEN ANY OTHER GOOD COMEDY THAT DIDN'T GET ANY RECOGNITION.   I JUST DONT SEE WHY EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT.  IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE, BUT AGAIN, NOT OSCAR WORTHY TO ME.
Lars and the Real Girl
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille
The Savages

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published
Nominees:
Atonement
Away from Her
Scaphandre et le papillon, Le AGAIN THE ONLY NOM IVE SEEN, BUT I LIKED IT A LOT.  SO IM HAPPY WITH MY BIASED VOTE.
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

Oh yeah, turn on the TV.  Heath Ledger died.  Do you think he was sad  and commited suicide because he didnt get a nomination for his performance in "Im Not There"?
He was filming a new Terry Gilliam movie.  I'm curious if his role was all filmed or not.  Terry Gilliam's movies are notorious for either being disasterous in the box office or disasterous during filming.
