blud, fuck a genera. dont try to shape everyone elses styles to reflect the kind you want to do, have everyone influence one another, then you come out with a unique-ass sound, and then you're a rockstar.
problem solved.

the sentence you're taqlking about that goes with what im saying is this one:
we try to combine what he knows how to play and what we want to play, but everything isn't to his liking.
but then I see
guitarist we have doesn't know the genre well enough to play it or come up with sweet riffs
i've shown him bands and burned him cd's of what this genre is like to give him an idea of what we want to do
he just isn't interested as he should be to start this sort of band.
he thinks his stuff is hot shit when its mos def NOT
our bassist doesn't listen to this genre either

so i mean maybe my fault that I missed the part where you weren't trying to make a particular kind of band, or where it didn't work, but I stand by my original statement.
biotch.

proved you wrong!!!

it will be unique but we all signed up for a metal/hardcore/whatever band b/c most of us like to play it. thats how band genre's start because people choose to play a particular GENRE and then uniqueness comes later with the bands progression! so i stand by my point in saying THIS KIND/SORT/GENRE of a band!

who is this anyways?

i was in a band a while ago and our drummer listened to strcily oldies. and by oldies i mean like, haul and oats and simon and garfukle. wich is all good and well, but that was NO WHERE near what we wanted to play. she hated what we were playing but didnt say anything for a really long time and was never very engaged.

the moral of the story is: be ware of band members who hate what you play, it wont end well.
