As I've been forcing myself through this hell week, marching toward Friday's showcase, I've been letting Pandora set the soundtrack. I built myself an Awesome 80's station, and the sweet nostalgic sounds of Van Halen, Aerosmith, Journey, Peter Gabriel, and the Police have been keeping my brain in a neon-colored, big-haired stupor. Your Steve Winwood comment made me laugh really REALLY hard. Good call on the one letter away thing... but why did you choose "oboe"? Is it because you feel the oboe is more dorky/nerdy than, oh, say ... "clarinet" or "flute"? You could've gone for the full blown "bassoon". Now, as I insert these words into your post, I realize that oboe is the best fit. It is a funny word ... I feel some Milingo coming on for oboe. :D

No. They are all dorky, especially when you are in 8th grade. I set up a grid of all the woodwind instruments, then tossed a tiddlywink and it landed halfway between flute and oboe. But as I wasn't really sure about the flute, because it isn't wood and doesn't have a reed (why is it in the woodwinds anyway?), I went with oboe.
