This may be possibly the most "Journal-like" update in quite a while. For those of you who don't know, I'm out in Livermore, California for the summer, working at LLNL. Ditto everything Mr. Ericflee said. Fenders are good even on days when it's not raining actively, but the ground is still wet. You tend to get some much road grit thrown up on you that you'd wish it was raining.

Also, if you are riding for any amount of distance, a spare tube and tools are good if you don't want to be pushing your bike 10 miles back home.

Yeah, and I don't know... get a water bottle so you don't dehydrate? Also, you'll want to start lifting weights for your arms, otherwise you'll have thighs like tree trunks and you'll look funny:
