The only thing we have to fear...

I think my full-fledged India write-ups will likely wait until I've sorted through all the pictures I took (I was shooting at 3MP and filled up all my memory cards twice. I'm pretty sure I took somewhere north of 500 pictures) and jogged my memory. But there is an interesting story from my trip back home yesterday.
First, a bit of background: ( Read more... )

i agree 100% that we should talk to strangers more. it's like when i was in germany and i picked up that hitchhiker. we're raised on such fear that you're taught to not trust anyone, when in fact, we should probably trust most people.
i try to live by the golden rule. when i was in europe two years ago, i hitchhiked some, and i always thought "i wish someone would stop. someone not creepy." so when i was in germany, i remembered that feeling. "if i were her, i would want someone non-creepy to stop. hmm. i'm non-creepy. i should stop." and there you go.
maybe one of these days i'll get burned. but i guess that's one of those chances you take. and i don't think it'll destroy my trust in people. once in a while, someone may take my trust for granted and abuse it, but you just gotta keep trusting. without it... this world is a much colder place, in my opinion.

congrats on getting home. i can't wait to see pictures.

and yeah, talk to strangers more often. definitely a good plan. even when you're not looking for a ride home.

speaking of transportation, your car is very handy right now, as it is very difficult to walk up buffalo street with crutches, as you might imagine. thanks, milind!

I depended on strangers when I was hitch-hiking into towns to resupply on my A.T. trip. They were all really nice. Sometimes they were a little sketchy too, tho - one guy had to move his rifle out of the seat and I said "I thought it was bow season?" And he said "This is my bow." Then he offered me a beer.

I agree whole heartedly that we're too scared of strangers.
