Ok, my take is you can live without alcohol. However, if you're going to continue to be a distance runner, then you're going to have to cheat on his gatorade etc. rule. Maybe it will be diluted, but you need to have it by mile 9. Fact of life, right?
Yeah, can't live without alcohol. It sounds petty, but once in awhile, it's really nice to sit down with a beer and just relax. As I was planning to do once my big project is over next week.
I've actually found sugar-free electrolyte powders that can be mixed with water. A diabetic runner friend of mine pointed me to them.
