Jack/Ianto in CoE

RL has been pretty mad the last few months. I'm hoping it'll start to settle down soon though, so I'm clearing out a few old ideas in order to make room for all the enthusiasm and energy I'm expecting to find in the near future.

So.

With the exception of starting gwenwood (which doesn't really count), I haven’t so much as dipped my toe into any of the ( Read more... )

The only question it leaves me with is, in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, after he’d told Gwen whatever it was that the finding of the engagement ring interrupted, how had he planned to explain to her that Ianto was next on his to-do list?

LOL, I like the way you think. Obviously, Jack has very different ideas about relationships than we do.

Hell yes :) And, as such, I imagine he's been a (generally willing, if somewhat bemused) participant in many a conversation on ethics, morals, mating habits...

It worked. He moved on. He still cared deeply for Gwen, he still (my eyes tell me) loved her, but he fell in love with Ianto too. Slowly and gradually, like you do. And there’s no choice or comparison to it - can you imagine Jack’s reaction to being told he had to choose who to love?

This. I agree with you.

I'd like to link to this. Would it be okay if I did?

Yes, of course you can link here :D

The tangle between Jack, Ianto and Gwen (and Rhys) is gorgeous - IMO! Mainly I love that there was so much room for ambiguity and development - and for people to accept how they feel and make decisions to do something else anyway. I hope Jack's real regard for her continues to defer any hopes he might have (or had) for himself in favour of her relationship with Rhys in S4. That way it doesn't go away, but it doesn't sit forefront, demanding to be resolved either. Making one person the focus of all Jack's energies would seem a denial of his character - and I like that he's difficult to define! :)

(Sorry to take so long to reply, RL's very determined at the minute)

No worries!

I think Jack, at this period in time, after Lucia and after every relationship he's had, realizes that it's kind of cruel to enter into relationships and has a defensive wall up to prevent this, but he can't help loving people; it's in his nature.

The overarching theme of Torchwood in every series, IMO, has been forgiveness, and that's the topic of the meta I'm brewing.

Change 'people' to... something that encompasses all forms of life, and I think you just defined omnisexual :)

Your meta sounds interesting. And true! (There's a pretty much dormant comm - torchwood_meta - that's still got a fairly decent sized membership. It was a good place to get a decent discussion, back in S1&2, it might be worth having a look when you're ready to post?)
