You know, a funny thing happened...

Earlier today (my time, anyway) I posted a friends-locked post about how happily boring my life was.

I should NOT have done that! ^_^;;;

I'll start from the beginning. After spending a morning at my computer typing up LJ comments and working a bit on fanfic, I decided I definitely needed some fresh air. Now I live less than a mile from a huge shopping area (a mall, Wally World, Sam's Club, grocery store, seven or eight plazas, and a movie theater). So I decided, "what the heck? why not go for a stroll?". So I set off, umbrella in my hand and hat on my head and everything went fine during my Cracker Barrell lunch. Finished lunch and toddled to the shopping area proper.

Now, the main street is a six-lane thoroughfare. With only ONE crosswalk light. Four major intersections, only one with a crosswalk light. In order to cross the street without going several blocks out of your way, you usually have to watch the lights, and time your crossing perfectly to avoid being run over. Rather like "Frogger", but with people. I've been doing this for years now.

Today, I had everything timed and made it across the first three lanes with no problems. The second set of three lanes had the way clear, and I knew I'd have enough time to sprint across. So I started my dash...

And halfway across, I stubbed the toe of my shoe against the ground. Took several more HUGE steps to try and catch my balance, but failed. Ended up sprawled out on the highway. Didn't know what else happened, I had tunnel vision as survival instinct kicked in. My knee wouldn't support my weight, so I crawled feverishly to the curb.

Several minutes later as I am dealing with a moderate case of shock (I was shaking) and the fact I managed to get to the grass safely, two ladies stopped to make sure I was okay. One was an older lady in a car, the other a middle-aged lady who parked in the gas station behind me. According to the lady in the car, I almost got hit. Just what I needed to hear in the throes of shock. Anyway, skinned my knee (right), scraped my other knee (left), my right breast got a tiny bit of a scraping but not enough to tear the skin, and my right elbow.. one of the poor ladies thought it might be broken until I flexed it to show her it was all right. Why?

Because that is the elbow that was hurt in the car accident I was in a few years back (22 stitches, yee-haw), so this little incident scraped away tons of scar tissue, leaving blood and complete bruising underneath. I mean, there was no pink, only purple and red.

The lady who had parked kept asking me if I could stand. I told her I just needed a moment (my life had just flashed before my eyes), then I'd be fine. She asked me what I'd been doing, so I told her I was just going to see a movie (which was what I'd decided to do). She offered me a ride, but I thanked her and told her I would go to the gas station behind us, bandage myself up, and I could continue myself. So I went into the gas station, thinking things would be hunky dory...

All they had were little tiny band-aids that wouldn't do diddly. They let me use the restroom, though, so I could at least wash some of the blood off, and I got some sympathy. But that also meant I had to walk to the grocery store before I could bandage my wounds. Got to the grocery store, and found the necessities.. massive band-aids, non-stick pads, gauze, and tape. Oh, and scissors. Then at long last I was able to patch myself up. Then, in true "me" fashion, I kept on to the movie theater. I figured that if I could trek to the grocery store without treatment, I was NOT going to let the little incident ruin my day!

Ended up seeing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for the third time (YAY! Burton and Depp heal all wounds), then found a CD I'd been looking for, books on Wales and Rugby, and.. wait for it.. a shirt of Tohru from Fruits Basket in my size! *squees* Dined on Chinese for dinner, then went to make it a double feature and took in "Hustle and Flow". Good movie, I thought. Just what I was expecting. Finally, I had the sweetest bus driver (yes, I hopped the bus home. I was getting worn out) ever! Normally they leave me off at the corner before my street. This one actually asked me EXACTLY where I was going! So I told him, and he made a special stop. :) Maybe he noticed I was the stubborn walking wounded. *LOL*

Then I get home, and I have a mild, very pleasant surprise. One reader had left a review on my most recent story pointing out a difference between US and UK customs, and I'd asked her for aid in fixing the story. She had already e-mailed me back with information in spades, so I have revising to do! *grins and thanks "Amber" for leaving her e-mail address with her review*

Finally, the coup de grace. I surfed on over to LJ to comment on the comments that had been left me earlier today and checked my friends list. And got the shock of my life.

It's been a very, VERY long time since anyone was inspired enough by a piece I wrote to do artwork. The last time was a collaboration. The time before that, the end result remained private. So I was absolutely flabbergasted to learn that a fanartist is making a doujinshi out of one of my "Howl's Moving Castle" fics!

I'm still delirious, and in shock from being in shock at two completely different ends of the spectrum all in one day. It's not "par for the course" like it is for some *winks at scottmatthew * I don't have a "Dream Wall" like he does. I'm still learning how to inspire people. So this, just took my breath away. And I just have to pimp share this with everybody because I'm so freaking giddy!

Yes, I'm de-cloaking my other username. Heaven help the world!

And THAT'S the news. Now, I should really go to bed before anything else happens! XD
