Actually, when I came home for xmas this year, I recall reading in a magazine, New Yorker?, that "it would only take one big hurricane, and N.O. would go under", they totally knew, but no one did shit.

From over here, with my ability to tune out the media, all I really feel is ashamed that everyone is looting while people are dying. Is the media expressing this at all? I mean, several third world countries got ripped by major tsunamis recently, and I don't recall looting being a central media issue. Possibly because most people were concerned with survival. But n.o. goes under and every closet militia member comes out, guns loaded. Makes me angry as hell.

the mayor of the city says that the looting is exaggerated. several news sources have said that reports of looting are exaggerated. i've read many more stories that say that people are terrified of the police & other armed folks, that they are starving and dying.
