I had a lot of ear infections as well as a kid, one of which permanently damaged my hearing in my right ear...this would explain why sometimes I think I'm talking with cotton in my mouth and people often have a hard time understanding me unless I say something twice. I also randomly fall over.

What's interesting for me is teaching kids with IEPs that include reading disabilities. It's not uncommon to run across kids who have a history similar to yours. Often they are identified as developmentally delayed early, then speech/language impaired, then they are released from SPED and picked up again between grades 6-8 for reading delays.

Definitely a correlation between ear infection and delayed reading skills. I'm glad you made a personal connection with someone's research. That is always fun.
