Winter break is almost over, I fly back to NY tomorrow morning. Had lots of fun hanging out with my family. Saw my Washington friends a couple times, but they all had to go back to school a few weeks ago, so I've mostly been wasting time and sleeping.

I actually consider myself a feminist. A lot of this may have to do with the types of feminists I hang around - by which I mean I know at least two explicitly feminist porn stars, something that would blow the minds of those bloggers you mentioned above. My friend Calico (http://www.thedominatrixnextdoor.com) is a good example of this.

I think the problem is when people start confusing misandry for feminism. Not to mention that a lot of feminists seem to have as much of an idea of what a woman should and shouldn't be as any right-winger... just in the opposite direction. It's very frustrating in a movement that SHOULD be about making sure every woman is respected and can do whatever they want in life - whether that's having a career or taking care of their children - and that men should have those same rights.

A lot of third wave feminists support porn and stripping and stuff. I guess it's something along the lines of reclaiming sexuality as their own? So a lot of the sites I was reading had commentary by feminist sex workers. Of course there are plenty of feminists who are totally against it, too.

That' a really good point. And that's the attitude that seemed to be missing from all the stuff I was reading- maybe I'm just accidentally finding all the wrong web sites.

Dave/whowantscookies used to belong to an LJ comm, called anti-feminism, and I used to duck in there from time to time to see what they were complaining about (that's what I think all socially or politically motivated LJ comms are about--complaining), and one name that got bantered around a few times was Wendy McElroy.

Only other times I saw her name pop up was on a couple of news websites opinion columns one where she was speaking out against The Vagina Monologues in regards to a school having a production of that, but not of some other traditional play which was deemed "politically incorrect" by the school administrators. The other time was when she was speaking out in support of a serviceman in Iraq whose wife divorced him and got full custody of his children since he wasn't around.

So I think you might be on the same page as her if you want to try and check her out.
