This reminds me of the saga in which Thrym had stolen Mjölnir, and demanded to marry Freya, for him to give back the hammer. Freya refused to do it, so Loki devised a plan, in which Thor would dress up as Freya, and marry Thrym.

That's the Þrymskviða! It's hilarious -- Heimdall is the one who suggests dressing Thor as Freya, and Loki runs with it! Apparently, Loki really wanted to dress up as a handmaiden. :)
