Summary: Silly Jinki.
The puzzle was almost finished. There were only a few pieces left to be slotted in their appropriate spots. Two were sitting in Jinki’s open palm. The other was playing hide-and-seek from the young singer. He weren’t done if it wasn’t complete.
This is why Jinki made sure to count the small bits of cardboard before starting because he knew Jonghyun and Minho were inattentive when it came to board games and they could drop every piece in the box and not bother to pick it up. He’d counted them all though, and they were all present. He just didn’t exactly know where they were anymore.
Taemin lazed beside him, reading a manga Kibum had begrudgingly picked up for him earlier. You know, before he and the rest of the group abandoned the oldest and youngest with no schedules to do and nothing to pass the time with. Precisely why they were sitting in silence, playing with little kid puzzles and reading.
“Check under that couch for me?” He requested as nicely as he could. Taemin wasn’t feeling too happy with him after he’d accidentally slipped on one of his many books and tore the page with the scantily clad women on it. He apologized profusely but their little manage just wasn’t having it.
With an indignant huff, Taemin reached under the couch behind them, grabbed the last chunk of the stiff picture and shoved it in his hand. He turned back to his paperback scarily fast, like it was killing him to look away for more than a moment.
“Thanks, Taemin-ah,” he muttered quietly. If he could buy him another copy of the volume then he certainly would, but he couldn’t get two words out of the boy to ask him what it was even called. He figured it wasn’t the point to adorn him with another one. The fact that he messed it up is what made him turn mute in the first place and that wasn’t going to change.
The leader and the maknae hadn’t been on the best terms for a lot longer than the clumsy man’s escapade. Jinki was clueless to whatever he’d done (it seemed he was always doing something wrong too). No one bothered to make him aware either. It was bordering on unacceptable how snappish and rude the youngest was being. If the members hadn’t noticed he wondered if it was just him.
As the entrusted leader, he’d have to put a stop to it soon. Just not now because…well, he needed someone more intimidating with him to get the job done. Or someone who could get through to the dancer.
He studied the boy a little while longer and then turned back to his puzzle. Finishing it up proudly, he carefully gathered it in his hands, wary not to break it up. It was an image of Keroro. He briefly wondered why they had a puzzle like this in the dorms anyway before shrugging the thought away.
“I finished it.”
The announcement fell on deaf ears and Jinki’s shoulders sagged as he dropped his finished work back down carelessly. He unconsciously pondered when the others would be back.
Sighing and feeling lonely, he spared the newly adult another glance. No acknowledgment at all. What a lovely companion he had.
