It's occured to me that sewing is not like knitting for me. While this seems terribly obvious, let me go into detail first: when I was little, my grandmother taught me the basic knit/purl stockinette and garter stitches, so coming back to it several years later was a lot easier and quicker for me. Where are you located? I am in Vallejo, and I have the advantage of a nice, large, sturdy table with which one may cut fabric with confidence.

I'm in San Jose, but I go back home to Fairfield at least once a month (usually twice) on the weekends, so I'm nearby if you'd like to set something up.

I have more than enough time to devote to a project, I only have one class this summer and I have yet to start work anywhere.

I am not allergic to either children or cats, so I think all is good.

Perhaps a skirt is the best idea, it's a good start in general... and natural fibers in the summer is a must. I'll have to pick up my own fabric, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm happy to help, & you know where I live now ;-) July is freakishly busy tho & I'll be out of town for 2 events. But August is pretty clear -- I've been wanting to start weekly stitch 'n bitch nights, like on Wednesdays (when my hubbi plays hockey). Bring projects, get help, have a cocktail or coffee.

I agree w/the above, skirts are great to start with, & there are some great ways to jazz 'em up. I think Jo-Ann's Fabrics has some pattern brands for 99 cents this holiday weekend too.

i can teach you to make simple things like purses, and customization of clothing and the like. i must warn you, patterns are horrible to figure out in most cases, but i can try and teach you that.
