Restoring my faith in humanity

Saw this rush by on my flist. I love this more than any other Christmas carol sung by anyone else. I love this in June. I love this period. I'm a well known sap, but this morning it reduced me to tears. That's just me. On it's own, it's a sweet, beautiful performance by two men from completely different worlds ( Read more... )

I had never heard how it come about, although I did know it was actually shown after Crosbys death.

The banter in the beginning, although sort of hokey, just cracks me up - especially the convo over White Christmas.

OMG yes, I love the set up. And one of the comments on YouTube mentions Bing's comment at the end. "It's a pretty thing, isn't it?" So sweet.

Thank you so much for showing me it's out there. It really helped me this morning.

I ADORE this version of "Little Drummer Boy". It is my favorite Christmas song of all time. And it's amazing it worked with such 2 disparate people.

I know. It comes down to their voices being a good match and them both being professionals. Give 'em something good and stand back.

Bing could sing any song, with anyone. Bowie's much the same. And their voices are actually pretty similar in timbre so it's not surprising they work well together. And it's just sweet, and warm, and a very nice holiday thing. A couple of our regular karaoke guys did this song together last time, it was fun.

(off topic, I just watched the DVD of Bowie's Reality tour from 2005 and I have to say, nobody should be allowed to age that well. Da-yum.)

I always liked Crosby. Solid actor, beautiful voice. Didn't make movies that moved me so much, but you couldn't fault him for his performances.

As for Bowie.... ::deep, heavy, lusting sigh:: No, they shouldn't. I think he's been doing even better since marrying Iman. He always looks happy.

I'd forgotten about this one. I can appreciate now, after having been in a choir, how well this illustrates both Bowie's and Crosby's abilities. I can even tell when Bowie is looking at Crosby to time his entrances. It's a great song sung by two very fine performers.
