Need More Movies to Watch on Netflix

Dec 07, 2010 04:00

Hey guys!

My Netflix queue is down to 8 DVDs and I need to populate it with more things to watch asap only I don't know what I should put on there...

Please give me some recommendations! I have lots to scan and not much to entertain me. D:

I don't care what year a movie was made, I've watched and enjoyed short films made as far back as the 1890's.

Under the Red Hood is awesome! <333 If you like Batman you should totally watch it ♥

And Studio Ghilbi's movies, that's what I was forgetting! I still have to see some myself, but "Princess Mononoke", "Howl's moving castle", "Spirited away" and "Kiki's delivery service" are beautiful <3

I'm a little reluctant with Under the Red Hood because it doesn't seem to feature any of my favorite villains besides the Joker. And I dislike Dick Grayson. :\ The art on the cover looks really nice though so I'm going to give it a try.

I saw a lot of the Studio Ghibli films during the Month of Miyazaki Turner Classic Movies had a few years ago. I liked how they also showed the Japanese version later and that there were no commercial interruptions during the films. I HATE commercials during movies!
The ones I added to my queue were:
Kiki's Delivery Service
My Neighbors the Yamadas
The Cat Returns
Ponyo
Tales from Earthsea (apparently not on DVD yet but when it's released it'll automatically be added)

I really would like to watch Only Yesterday again. I'm really annoyed that they won't release it here in the US!  So the girls talk about menstration a little, Pom Poko had GIANT TESTICLES all over the place and they released THAT!!!!!  I don't understand!! >:(

"The film remains the only theatrical Studio Ghibli feature not yet ( ... )

Uhm, I'm pretty sure you've already seen everything I could suggest, but I'll try anyways XD

First of all, if you really like sad sad movies I'd like to suggest you "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" and "Atonement". They're both movies I'd generally not watch a second time because they're pretty heavy, but in my opinion they are really beautiful and well-made.
"The Prestige" is also very beautiful, though I admit I never had the heart to watch it a second time (yes, I'm a bit weak about these things "XD)

About paranormal/messed up characters it cames to my mind "The sixth sense" and "Hide and Seek" (the 2005 one).
For the subconscious I admit I've never seen many movies about it but if you've not done it already you must absolutely watch "Inception" because it's incredibly awesome <3 (I don't know if the DVD is out yet though ( ... )

The Prestige

Oh wow I forgot about that movie! It was very good, and the twist at the end was awesome. Plus, it's loaded with top hats, and well know how we all feel about top hats <3

TOP HATS, YOU'RE RIGHT

And the ending was really awesome. Thinking about it makes me feel like watching it again but I know I can't... "XD

2 things I really liked recently:

Moon
2009 and DO NOT watch any previews or read about it, I think it's probably better when you don't know anything about it. Like me, when I first saw it.)

The Keep
1983 fantasy/myth/Nazi/"horror" it's on Netflix, they didn't release it on DVD before. It was, apparently, a theatrical flop. But it's Michal Mann, and Ian McKellen is a lead, and it's very Hellboy/B.P.R.D (which are some of the few American comics I love) and kind of Shadow of the Colossus-ie in feel. There are cheesy parts, but I was surprised. Actually, it was kind of like Lady Hawk, (as in, that era of movie and fantasy) but less boring.

If you like "psychologically messed up character" movies, OMG, See Gangster No. 1, 2000, if you haven't. (I don't know many people who have)
Ignore the title, which seems lame. It's one of my favorite films ever. It's very American Psycho.. but... the main character is maybe even more calm yet insane.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch, 2001, I'd say only try it if you like Rocky Horror but its got a 92% ( ... )

Netflix keeps recommending Moon for me. I know absolutely nothing about it. I guess I'll have to give it a watch at some point now. :3

And I understand what you mean about knowing less about a movie. I tend to like to know as little as possible so I won't have any preconceived notions about a film. Like when I saw Little Miss Sunshine a few months ago. All I knew about it was that it was critically acclaimed, involved a family and a bright yellow van. Nothing else. And I adored it and it's soundtrack. <3

The Keep - 1983 fantasy/myth/Nazi/"horror"What!? LOL! The cover looks soo cheesy! I'm going to wait until my brother's here to watch it with me! XD The "Shadow of the Colossus-ie feel" is what I'm mainly interested in ( ... )

Oh yeah, exactly. & Moon is one of those movies too, where a lot of it is about figuring out what is going on~ So, when I watched the trailer after, I was all "OMG! If I had known that it would have ruined that part in the movie" XD It's weird how ad companies do that ( ... )

That's how I feel about the trailers for the Layton games. Especially the US ones. Ugh! It's best to avoid them. The Japanese trailers tend to be more careful about spoilers. However the second trailer that's normally released on release day is a little more spoilery than the first one but not as much as the US one.

ARGH! Romantic Comedies makes me want to punch it in the face if it had one! >:(

I've been avoiding Avatar becuase it seems to be big budget CG nonsense. Also I don't like how the..... blue... things look. :/

I love the first two Aliens! They definitely feel more like horror than traditional sci-fi. Ellen Ripley is one of the most badass female characters ever! The other two movies were... Not all that interesting. Like they were trying too hard.

It's more like a western than scifi

LOLOLOLOL!!!! XD OMG! Have you heard of Cowboys & Aliens!?!? When I first saw ( ... )
