We didn't really fight in WWI. Russia did, and there were a whole lot of Finns fighting with them (e.g. Mannerheim and the... umm... jääkärit), but we were quite busy enough with our own little war in 1918 ("Sisällissota", it has a whole lot of names). Both the Winter War and the Continuation War (and the Lapland War that is usually seen as a part of Continuation War) took place during WWII.
And as for Lotta Svärd, they were mostly nurses, yeah. With some exceptions, of course. (Lotta Svärd @ Wikipedia)
