i feel like i owe you guys an entry. i've given you like, 10 ambiguous words at most in the past 4 months. though i'm not sure if i'm updating for anyone really, or just for myself, or maybe, like many times in the past, it's just late at night so thoughts about anything and everything creep into my head so i feel the need to be eloquent and deep ( Read more... )

i know i've kinda said this before, but there doesn't have to be a dilemma at all between going to school and living in albuquerque ;-). i think there are areas where UNM is not as good, and i know people in certain degrees who love abq and go to UNM but hate UNM and are going to leave for that reason. however, one of the strengths of UNM happens to be the biochemistry department. there is a huge research community and lots of opportunities. if you want to do genetic engineering, you will have to go beyond undergrad anyway... and grad schools aren't going to care whether you got a degree specifically in genetics at A&M or one called biochemistry at UNM. in fact, i would bet that chances are, you would do better here and have a more impressive resume leaving undergrad because you could be happy and well-founded. from talking to vince, anthony, ben, and others, i know the program here is rigorous and will give you the basic understanding you need to advance to more specialized topics like genetics later on. i think it's definitely worth ( ... )

thanks for the advice on unm :) biochem is actually really close to gene, like here if you double major it's only 14 extra hours i think, so unm would probably cover it..and yeah my mom has also mentinoed to me how it's really grad school that counts. i'm really torn, like i don't know how to describe it but there's like this other factor where as much as i absolutely want to be in albuquerque, i feel like i need to be away for college, like i feel like i need to get out and experience living away from the conveniences of home and whatnot. i'm sure living at the dorms is still a really good experience since parents aren't around anyway but i figured i'd try a new environment. too bad i had to pick one that was worse? haha oh well it's ok. but yeah i'm trying to figure out what to do w/the school situation. anyway i really appreciate getting your take on that ( ... )

yeah, it's definitely a lot to think about. i guess in a way though, trying a semester at UNM could end up being a lot less hassle and committment... then if you didnt like it here, youc ould go through the extra hassle and money commitment of trying somewhere else... i dunno, my friend was saying that because she's been thinking about transferring too, and it made sense. i understand the feeling of needing to be away for college... but i think before using that as a deciding factor, maybe it'd be worth figuring out exactly why that feeling exists and what it means. there are definitely a lot of other feelings you have that are conflicting with that, so i guess its just figuring out which really mean anything and which are actually important. plus it'd be really fun to have you around here ;-)
