Drifting by via friendsfriends to say, yeah, it was an interesting article, something we've all experienced, but by not firmly confronting the two men she described (waiting until she and her friend were out of earshot to laugh at the first one, not wanting to escalate the conflict with the second), she is *reinforcing* their behavior. If there are no negative consequences, they're gonna keep on being jerks. If you politely rub their noses in how very wrongwrongwrong they are, especially in front of witnesses, they'll think twice next time they try to pontificate about something they know nothing about. Plus think about what a good example she would have set for the other three women at the restaurant to inspire *them* to stand up for themselves, too. (Note: For practical reasons I'm not recommending this for windbags whose goodwill you *need,* like a supervisor, but the two examples she cited appear to be casual social interaction with no negative consequences for her if she'd called them on their bullshit.
