Wig tutorial!

been meaning to post this for a while...don't know if there's something already out for it, I think there was...? ah, but it'd be such a waste to let the images just sit on my computer. *laugh*

sorry for the halloween wig used, my konata wig was already styled when I made this. it should serve its purpose well enough, though. :D

1; separate out the strand of hair you want to make into the antenna (ahoge's the proper term for it y/n? no idea orz). a strand as close to the center of the wig (on the crown) is preferable. trim. cut it a bit longer than you think you'll need, just in case.

2; get some wire. I used garden wire because I had a lot of it at the time, but anything sturdy that you can bend easily should be fine. shape one end into a kind of T shape, and trim it to about the same length as your ahoge.

3; stick the wire through the mesh of the wig right through the strand of the ahoge. (sorry for the bad photo ;;;) pull it all the way through, so it stands straight up when the wig's set down properly on a head.

3; bend the wire into an appropriate curve. should be self explanatory. fiddle with it until it looks right, and if you think it's too long don't be afraid to cut it down! (nail clippers are the easiest way to cut thin wire like this imo)

4; spray your ahoge hair strand with hairspray. the type is probably not that debatable. I used Got2B (the yellow one), so I'm not sure if something lighter/not as strong will hold up. Treat it kind of like a hair spike, I guess... \D;; you'd want something with a lot of support. make sure to get the root of the strand, that part's really important!

5; Carefully - carefully! - rest the strand on the wire. It should somewhat stick together, so it's not falling apart or anything, but smooth it together with your fingers if it is. And...let it dry there. Make sure it isn't as gross and lumpy as mine! \D

fin; See, it defies gravity! \o/ The wire can be removed now, and it holds up to the normal stress of cosplay. Just don't...squish it down or anything, that would be a bad idea. >_o If you want to be really careful, the wire can probably be left in if it's a colour close enough to the wig fiber and fits the curve of the wig closely enough.

Hope this helps someone! \D;;
