Vriska?

[ She was suppose to be here, wasn't she? Admittedly John wasn't 100% sure on that. He'd been looking for her, though, because he had a hunch she would be. Everything was cold, dark and gray. It gave John a bad feeling as he walked along, one hand on the wall guiding him onward. ]

Are you here?

[ She had to be. ]

[And she was there sure enough, though likely not as John had hoped to find her.

Vriska had managed, through sheer force of will, to turn herself over on her back, both yellow eyes wide in disbelief. Terezi did it -- she had gone through and stabbed her. Her luck had failed her...even in gaining the most favorable of outcomes, she was doomed to lose.

If John didn't see her bright orange hoodie or slip in the cerulean slowly pooling on the floor first, he would hear her cough in a guttural fashion, struggling to breathe through the fluid rapidly gathering in her lungs.

She heard a voice through the ringing of her ears -- a voice she hadn't heard before now and felt her bleeding heart drop into her stomach. Who's this douchebag????]

[The sounds made John pause uneasily. He squinted into the darkness. There was a faint light somewhere ahead, where the sound had come from. He hurried forward but gingerly. If it was Jack he'd be in trouble...

...

He froze. He'd never seen Vriska before but somehow... he knew he'd just found her, laying in a pool of strange blue liquid. It took John a moment or two to realize it was her blood.

He paused standing over her for a moment or two, trying to gather himself. Why is everyone near me dying?

John forced a smile.] Hi, Vriska. It's me, John.

[He knelt beside her.] Can you hear me?

N-no...

[It comes out as a sound of exasperation, a whine, and a flinch of pain all in one motion. Vriska can't help but try and turn herself over again. Maybe if she could just get the strength in her arms, he wouldn't have to see her so helpless -- so defeated.

It was so pathetic. What kind of creature was she?]

T-this isn't...what it looks like--

[She coughs again, a splatter of blue painting her already soaked hand. Vriska can't sit up -- she's forced back on her back to breathe heavily, muscles seizing up with pain.

It was exactly what it looked like. She was dying, and there was nothing she could do about it.]

S-stupid human...you're suppoooosed to be--with the other hero of light--!

[At least then he didn't have to see her like this.]

[He watched her unflinching. Outwardly, anyway. Inwardly he hated what he was seeing. He was watching her struggle to live and he didn't know what he could do about it. All he could do was pick her up as gently as he could, cradling her carefully in his arms, and bite his lip.

Though not as stoic as Dave, John was surprisingly good at keeping a facade in the face of crippling pain. Still coping with his father's death and seeing Rose near dead, John was also at his limit. But he tried. He kept smiling and his voice cheerful. Sort of...]

I know. It's okay. I helped Rose. She's okay now but... I got this weird feeling I needed to help you, too. Kind of silly, isn't it?

[But here he was for her. Helpless...]
