[Jade could not be freaking out more if she tried. Her whole body felt numb. For the first time she felt the cold of her planet and it bit her like the sharp teeth of a dog. She shuddered hard, felt sick to her stomach at all the blood and at Dave's sputtering voice, and broke down immediately.

She wept, tears stinging her eyes and running hot down her frozen cheeks. She reached out and grabbed his bloody shirt in tight fists. Her head bowed, long hair veiling her face as she cried.

The utter shock and horror was perhaps a little too much for the poor girl.]

[She couldn't stop crying even if she wanted to. Why had this happened? Everything had been going relatively good. Jade thought for sure that together they could do something to beat Jack or at least stop him.
