As far as moving it to the NY, get a big box, crumple up some newspaper(they have that kind of thing in small towns right;-)), and fill the box about one thirds full. Wrap the pot of the plant in a grocery bag and tie it off(make sure you've watered it a day or two before, but not the day of shipping). Place plant in box, and cover with a layer of crumpled up newspaper. Tape shut and send off on a two-three day mailing schedule. I've done this before with a 100% success rate. Just make sure you get a big enough box.

Loves!

And thanks and duh on the ferns. Even a beginner knows ferns are low light, but who the hell wants a house full of ferns? I need VARIETY! That's why I was looking for others, and I've found them, so please, no need to list off any others you can think of... ;-)

Yada Yada,
Blah Blah...;-)
If you are very careful about packing the plant and make sure there aren't any gaps, it should work fine. Just make sure it's plenty snug.
You could try taking it on the plane, but I think that's against TSA regulations...
And maybe I want a house full of ferns. Did you ever think of that before making such a statement and sending me off into an unending spiral of depression;-P
