hilarious, really-it doesn’t matter how many times I pull the same tricks, he still laughs like a schoolgirl hearing her first dirty joke. He always gets mad at himself for reacting that way in front of the press, which makes it all the funnier.

So true...

I’m the most important person in their lives, the indispensable one.

You just described the perfect John Lennon arrogance in my mind. This whole thing is so very in character that I'm actually jelous. LOL. I'm loving this whole idea and just the tone of the writing that you have. You've managed to make it very funny and very sexy all at once. Is there going to be more? Please?

Thanks for the wonderful comments! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story!

It's good to know I'm not the only one who imagines John this way. I was worried that John fans would get angry at this version of their hero.

Don't be jealous--your John is just as in character, and with more sides of his personality visible.

Um, I wasn't planning to write more--this one pretty much exhausted my ideas! :-D

I'd have to second what Forsomeone said--no matter what, he could always crack Paul up. Ah, the power he knew he had over him...

I don't think it was derogatory about John at all; I got a kick out of it in fact. He was arrogant in some ways, especially about the group. In his mind (and Paul and George's), he was forever the teen-age gang leader. It was HIS group and he was the lynchpin. I wouldn't put it past him that there were times when he felt in the middle between P & G and would have used that to his advantage somehow.

John as gang leader minds_opaque September 16 2007, 23:24:38 UTC
I think you're right, and that's just the dynamic I wanted to describe. Thanks for the perceptive comments.

Thanks for bringing up John's view of himself as a gang leader. I think that self-image had a lot of interesting ramifications.

Take George's book I Me Mine, for example. We all know John was mortally offended because George didn't mention him enough, and y'all probably know that in a later interview he said he was like a father to George and George was just bitter about it. John's reaction was unreasonable, since George's book wasn't even an autobiography (it was mostly song lyrics); but that's not the point. John the gang leader wouldn't have been happy unless George said he owed everything to John, which George wasn't going to do ( ... )

Thanks! I knew people from johnheartpaul would like the line, but I'm glad to see a George fan approves, too.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story! Thanks for commenting.

You probably know this already, but according to his employees, John really did keep a diary. As far as I know, it hasn't been published, but I'm guessing it's something like In His Own Write, full of drawings and wordplay. Wouldn't it be interesting to see what he wrote?

Thanks for the recommendation. I was aware of fab4ficlover's story, but I haven't read it yet.

I really liked this story.

I thought you did a great job of showing how easily John could have played Paul and George off against each other. And what the pay-off would be for him in building up his role as the pivot around which everything turned.

I love the press conference where George and John are teasing and goofing off. That was a great example to show the intimacy and rapport the two of them had at their best.

I loved your style here: restrained and spare but with telling details. Also, wonderful internal monologue and believable dialogue. You have the voices right.

Bravo!
